Providing
Uniquely Recycled Goods to the Community
Catharine
(Catie) Luckett is passionate about fashion and one-of-a-kind
vintage clothing. Having strong knowledge of the market
and what local vintage/consignment shops have to offer,
she knew there was no store quite like The Bag Lady Boutique
in all of Utah. When the store came up for sale last year,
Catie jumped into the world of small business ownership.

Located at 241 East
Broadway in downtown Salt Lake City, The Bag Lady
Boutique is a hip vintage and consignment shop that
caters to the growing market of liberal adults in
the fashion forward music scene and creative art fields.
Products include lightly worn men and women’s
vintage and contemporary clothing as well as vegan
and non-vegan shoes. Accessories such as sunglasses,
handbags, belts and jewelry are also available along
with a select amount of household items to meet the
needs of its customers. |

Catharine has a knack for trends and knows what people want
and how much they are willing to pay for it. She also knows
individual customers so well that she offers a personal shopping
service. If someone is looking for a certain style or size,
she keeps an eye out for the perfect item. Customers also
have opportunities to earn cash or credit for their old clothing
through the consignment program.

“Owning
this business has made me more confident that people
take me seriously. This will lead to future opportunities.”

A
$25,000 Utah microenterprise loan enabled Catie to purchase
The Bag Lady Boutique in October 2003. By reducing costs and
scouting her own inventory, Catie has seen a 20% increase
in sales increase and a 40% increase in profits.
You can reach The Bag Lady Boutique at (801) 521-6650 or at
via e-mail at bagladyslc@aol.com. Stop by and check
out the everchanging inventory and ask Catie how the UMLF
helped her create her own job and follow her passion.
