Meeting
the Needs of a Beautiful Community
Angel
Bumpers knows that members of the African American community
have limited options in Salt Lake when it comes to finding
quality hair products and services. Seeing an opportunity
to fulfill a growing community need, in December 2003, she
established her retail shop, Beyond Beautiful,
and was located on Kensington Avenue in Salt Lake.
|
Now
located at 4902 South State Street, Beyond Beautiful
specializes in hair care and beauty supplies needed
by women of color. This includes relaxers, styling tools
and maintenance products such as shampoos, conditioners,
oils, moisturizers, scalp treatments, sprites and polishers.
They also carry
a large stock of wigs, many of which are purchased by
cancer survivors. Beyond Beautiful has a great salon
area in the back where Angel offers hair weaving, braiding,
cuts and styling.

Angel
has found the product in most demand to be hair extensions.
Millions of women have found hair extensions to solve
their cosmetic problems resulting from hair loss, hair
thinning and/or color changes that need to be made without
the use of chemicals. And more often than not, they
find it to be a great boost to their self esteem as
well.
A
$10,000 Utah microenterprise loan enabled Angel to meet
start up needs and open Beyond Beautiful.
Since then, Angel has moved the store to a location
in Murray that is larger and has more streetside visibility.

UMLF has set the foundation for me to achieve
goals that I set so long ago with no way of funding
them. Now, because of the UMLF, I am reaching
my goals.”

After
more than a year in business and in true entrepreneurial
spirit, Angel used a second Utah microenterprise loan
of $15,000 to start Beyond Beautiful Imports. Directly
importing 100% quality human hair extensions has not only
help her save money, she now wholesales the products directly
to other retailers. |
You
can reach Beyond Beautiful at (801) 461-4247.
Even better, stop by and visit Angel to learn how a microenterprise
loan helped her create her own job and build a brighter future.
