Eco Moto

Salt Lake City, Utah

"Advancing Your Transportation

Since 2003"

  Jonathan Schlee

Affordable and Environmentally Friendly Transportation

As a young man in his early twenties, Jonathan Schlee knows how important a fun and inexpensive form of transportation can be. In June 2003, he decided to open an alternative transportation specialty store catering to people who live close to their work, close to or within the city and are outdoor enthusiasts.

Originally located near the University of Utah, Eco Moto offers electric bicycles, electric scooters, gas scooters, and mopeds. They also carry replacement parts and accessories such as bicycle components, clothing, oil & cleaning solutions, alternative energy books, helmets, and riding glasses. Although Jonathan has found that his biggest customer base lies in the Salt Lake City metro area, he also sells to customers in 24 states and eight different countries via the EcoMoto.com website.

In April 2004, a $25,000 Utah microenterprise loan enabled Eco Moto to purchase inventory and do some marketing. A successful public relations effort gave the business a kick-started and the word spread. Since receiving the loan, sales have quadrupled and Jonathan recently moved the company to its current location at 1050 South State Street. And with rising gas prices, Eco Moto’s ability to offer low cost and energy efficient vehicles will only increase the company’s popularity. As new personal electric vehicles enter the marketplace in the near future, Eco Moto intends to be the first to have them.

“Without the UMLF, I wouldn’t have received the capital that was necessary to grow and succeed with my business.”
